Le Michel-Ange, Café-Warehouse-Roasting

Our greatest glory comes not from never falling,
but from getting up every time we do... [Confucius]

Before this great adventure began, there was first and foremost a dream shared by Louise Rousseau and her brother, Michel. Their objective: to open a coffee shop-bistro in a few years, to be able to work together. But the dream turned into a nightmare when Michel died in a tragic kayak accident on the Saint-Lawrence River in August 2010.

Louise and her cousin, RobertSt-Amour, had to make sense of this tragedy. That’s when the Le Michel-Ange, café-bistro project came to light. In September 2010, a draft business plan was already being put to paper; then Brigitte Lapointe and Marjolaine Bouchard, two close family friends, also decided to join this beautiful adventure.

That’s when steps were taken to find a roasting house, a commercial venue in Gatineau’s Hull sector.

As we searched for a local commercial site in Gatineau, Wake Cup Coffee Roaster's owner, Henry Assad, and Hans Langenbahn, European master roaster who had emigrated to Canada and whose operations are located in the Wake Cup Coffee Roaster inc. facility in Ottawa, made a totally unexpected offer: they invited us to set up our coffee shop-bistro in the roasting warehouse, the company nerve centre – an innovative idea that Hans imported from Germany: sip a coffee right where it is being prepared.

In fact, what better concept for the coffee connoisseur than to have access to a wide range of coffees from around the world, to discover blends that give an entirely different dimension to sampling coffee, to the aficionado’s delight, and to be able to sip a coffee as soon as it is prepared.

That’s all it took for the four associates of Le Michel-Ange to review and adapt their business plan in light of this most interesting idea. That’s when Le Michel-Ange, café-bistro became Le Michel-Ange, Café-Warehouse-Roasting.

Now that you know a little more about Le Michel-Ange Café-Warehouse-Roasting, come and be part of our great adventure.

Le Michel-Ange, Café-Warehouse-Roasting, Wake Cup Coffee Roasters, and Hans Langenbahn are waiting for you at 35 Laurel Street in Ottawa for an experience like no other.

Looking forward to seeing you!
